Author: James Rollins Book Color: Purple
Book Genre: Fantasy Summary: After their parents (who were famous explorers) died in an archaeological accident, the siblings Jake and Kady Ransom now live with their Aunt Matilda and Uncle Edward. But when they receive a letter that invites them to a museum in London that will feature some of their parent's findings that have remained unknown for some time, they decide to go. On the day they arrive at the museum, they end up finding themselves into the land of Calypsos, a land where different cultures unite as one. They speak All-World, use powerful and magical crystals for power and protection, and use a science called alchemy. But soon the Skull King, a powerful wizard that uses dark shadow magic, threatens to destroy Calypsos. And it doesn't take long for Jake to figure out that what the Skull King really wants is not Calypsos: it's he and Kady. And with the help of his new friends, Jake must use knowledge from both worlds in order to try to bring the Skull King to a defeat. Personal Review: It liked the book a whole lot. It reminded me of the Kane Chronicles, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard all rolled into one, plus some Mayan culture. This was a great fit for me, as I love to learn about culture, and the bonus for me was that is had magic in it. Score! Recommendation: I recommend this book for people who like fantasy books, who like books with magic, for people who like to learn about culture, or for people who don't mind a few scary, dark parts in their books. Like I said, the Skull King is a shadow king, so he uses powerful, dark shadow magic that can have the book seem dark at times. Want to buy this book? Click here.
