Book Genre: Realistic Fiction Summary: Lina is spending the summer in Tuscany, Italy, but she isn't there for a relaxing vacation. She is there instead to be with her father she never knew she had after her mother died of cancer. Her grandmother talks about how great Howard is, but she still is skeptical when she meets her new parent. Lina's summer sounds like a total flop, but then she meets Lorenzo, a sweet, half-Italian teenager who lives in a home that looks like a gingerbread house from Hansel and Gretel. And while on crazy adventures like going to late-night parties and eating gelato like madmen, Lina realizes her summer will be anything but boring! People say all tourists come for is love and gelato, but Lina realizes that there is way more to this magical city than meets they eye. Personal Review: This book was a really fun book to read. It was funny yet romantic, and I laughed on nearly every chapter. Not only that, it made me want to take a vacation to Italy. Oh, and I also had a strong craving for ice cream while I read this book. This is the perfect book for almost every kind of reader! Recommendation: I recommend this book for realistic fiction lover, readers who like romantic books, who like books with some sort of food element in it, who would like to learn the history of Italy. Book Genre: Realistic/Modern Fiction Summary: Jasmine De Los Santos may be Filipino, but she's never really thought much about heritage or the fact her parents immigrated here a while ago. Practically the definition of a perfect child, she is the captain of the cheer team and a 4.0 student with straight A's. Her dream comes true when she receives a letter from the president saying that she is a National Scholar. But everything comes crashing down when Jasmine realizes the horrible truth about her family: their green cards expired years ago, and they have been living in secret as illegal aliens. They were never truly Americans. If one little mistake happens in their family, and that includes accepting the National Scholarship Award, they could be deported from the U.S and have to live back in the Philippines. Suddenly, Jasmine's life is flipped upside down. What was the whole point of working so hard for her dream only to have it stay a dream? Why was she working so hard for something she would never get? Personal Review: This book brings up a topic that is highly discussed in today's society. I've never really paid attention to politics a whole lot, but this book opened my eyes more and allowed me to understand both sides a little better. This was a really good book and I highly enjoyed it. Recommendation: I would definitely recommend this book for fiction lovers. This book takes a while to read, so this can also be for readers who don't mind a long book. This also has realistic-fiction and modern-day fiction mixed together, so this would be for people who like that combination or who would like to try that combination. Click here to buy this book! Book Genre: Nonfiction: Historical Summary: Richard and Mildred Loving are husband and wife, but their marriage is illegal in the 1950's and 60's, as Mildred is black and Richard is white. They must go through a series of trials and cases in order to live with each other freely in Virginia, and to prove their love is real. Personal Review: I really liked this book a lot, even if it was non-fiction! Richard and Mildred are some of the nicest people I've read about, and it's a shame that they had to go through jail, separate homes, and many trial cases in order to love freely. This really did happen. If you look them up, you will see that they made history. Recommendation: I would recommend this book for non-fiction readers, who like books with love intertwined in it, and who would like to learn more about the tough times during segregation for people of all ethnicities. Is it Gabriel, the sweet, funny boy dating her best friend? Or is it Lucas, the trumpet-playing boy that Lily is slightly crushing on? This is one love mystery worth solving! Personal Review: I loved this book. It's perfect for this time of year: Valentines Day! It's a mystery inside a love story.
