Book Genre: Fantasy Recommended By: Angie Wiegers Summary: Galen is the prince of Syrena, an underwater kingdom where it's citizens have the body of a normal human but the tail of a fish. Galen is sent on land to find a girl whom he hears can communicate with sea creatures. Meanwhile, Emma and her friend Chloe are on vacation in Florida. When she bumps into Galen, she thinks his is another hot guy at the beach. Little does she know that she just ran into a prince who has been looking for her all along. And it takes a few encounters with some fish (and one encounter with a deadly shark) for Galen to be sure that Emma has the Gift that could save his kingdom. Now only if he can convince her to come with him... Personal Review: I liked to read this book, especially because this book ties some Greek Mythology into the plot. My favorite part was when Emma finds out that Galen is half fish, half human. She thinks that Galen is being attacked by a shark and it just grabbed his lower half. She starts kicking him, but when she sees that there is no shark, Emma goes into shock. Recommendation: I would recommend this book for people who like mythology, who love the ocean, who like fantasy, and for people who like a little romance in their novels. Do you want to buy the book? Book Genre: Fantasy Summary: How bad can starting high school be in a new place? As it turns out, very bad. Autumn Falls never wanted to move to Aventura, Florida, to be closer to her sick grandmother. To make matters worse, her father died in a car crash before they were scheduled to leave their old home. And starting high school in unfamiliar territory gives her the outsider feeling. Not to mention that she is a total klutz. But during her first day in class, she meats Sean, dashingly handsome and very kind. But then she finds out he hangs out with the mean girls, which gets her on the wrong side of the school's popularity queen, Reenzie. Now what can she do? As it turns out, the answer comes from her grandmother, who gives her an old diary that belonged to her father. Autumn thinks it is useless...until she realizes that whatever she writes in her diary comes true. Now she has the power to control what happens next, but what will happen when she tries to complete her wish: to get revenge on the girl who hates her? Recommendation: I thought this was an excellent book. The way the author describes the story with such detail...no wonder Bella has eight million likes of Facebook, five million followers on Twitter, and almost three million followers on Instagram! I like the series because it involves magic in the book. I really thought the most funny part in the book was where Autumn was watching Sean do track, and she notices Reenzie there as well, doing pole vault. So she wishes that Reenzie would trip and that her pole would split, but because she is dyslexic, she accidentally wished that Reenzie would trip in dog poop, which she did. It was really hilarious! Personal Review: I recommend this book for people who like fantasy, who like funny books, who books with a popular/mean girl, who don't mind books with a few mean parts, or for people who don't mind a little language. There were only three bad words total in the whole book, so for people who don't mind a little language, it would be alright with you. Want the book? Click here. Book Genre: Realistic Fiction Summaries: IT List 1: Jessica Darling is starting junior high, and she'll need all the help she can get using her older sister's (totally useless) popularity list. The results: friends turning petty overnight, unexpected friendships, and lot's of drama! IT List 2: After the first IT list disaster, Jessica agrees to use more of her sister's (confusing) advice in another list on friends, foes, and faux friends. What she doesn't realize is that she'll get into sleepovers (held at her house of course), candy making, and trying to get to infinity BFF's! IT List 3: Even after two IT list disasters, Jessica decides to give her sister's advice one more try, but it's the worst one yet. But when she needs it most, she loses it in a skunk disaster (don't ask) and now she has to rely on herself to survive through 7th grade...on her own. There are no instructions this time. Personal Review: I loved this book series. A LOT. I really loved the third book the most. To me, it had the most drama and was the funniest. I liked the most during the square dance in the third book, where Jessica and her square dancing group decide to fly the coop and do freestyle dancing during their final square dancing rodeo...and won! Other people thought they cheated because they didn't do square dancing, but it proved not be cheating. Recommendation: I recommend these books for people who like fiction, who like lots of drama, who like to read about popularity wars, or who like funny books. Want Jessica Darling's first IT List? Book Genre: Realistic Fiction. Recommended by: Melissa Corey Summary: Catherine "Cat" Locke is a smart science wiz who isn't the slimmest of girls in her high school. And while she sometimes has eating problems, she is too caught up in the other stuff in her life to care much about her weight. She spends her time on science fairs, schoolwork, and getting revenge on her number one-enemy Matt McKinney, who is also a science wiz and was one of her only friends until he made fun of her (indirectly) about her body weight. But that was before her new opportunity came: her next science project for her science class. After getting assigned a subject she didn't want, she later sees this as a chance to do a special science experiment...on herself. She wants to improve her diet, eating only natural and homemade foods and using almost no modern technology of any kind for 207 days (or seven months). This way, she claims, will not only improve her looks, but it will also let people know how wrecked their bodies are from eating so much junk food and artificial sweeteners and caffeine. But even the best experiments have it's potholes in life. Personal Review: I liked the book a whole lot! It was funny, romantic (at some parts), and dramatic (at some parts) all mixed in into one clever book. I like the parts where Cat's friend, Amanda, tries to get her to go on dates with boys SHE DOESN'T WANT TO GO OUT WITH and wear fancy clothes and put on makeup or ride in a car, but Catherine refuses every time (her friend makes her, anyway). Something always ends up wrong every time she goes out with a boy. It's funny to read! Recommendation: I would recommend this book for anyone who likes realistic fiction, who likes dramatic or slightly romantic books, funny books, or for anyone who is a vegetarian and can relate to what Cat is going through. Book Genre: Fantasy (Graphic Novel) Recommended By: Melissa Corey Summary: This book is organized in a very interesting way. There are 3 storylines that connect together by the end. I'll try to give you a quick run-down of the 3 stories: 1. Ever since Jin Wang moved to a new town, all he wants is to make a friend and fit in. But being the only Chinese-American boy in your class doesn't help much. The only other Asian is a girl named Suzy (and the classmates tease them that Jin and Suzy will get married on her thirteenth birthday), and his so-called "friends" harass and bully him. But by middle school, things start to take a strange turn. Jin falls in love with a girl named Amelia and then there are a few twists and unexpected surprises during his romance. But later he makes a wish that will change his life forever. 2. Thousands of years ago, a powerful monkey king was born from a rock on and defeated a tiger that haunted a magical Flower-Fruit Mountain for years. He became the most famous monkey of all time and thousands of monkeys flocked to see the king and be under his rule. But after he gets mocked by the gods, goddesses, spirits, and demons at a dinner party, he vows to make sure that people respect him as a god, and he trains hard to know how. But when he does learn the secrets and earns the powers, he later becomes greedy and he soon learns the most important lesson of his life. 3. Danny has it all for a popular boy- cool friends, good basketball skills, and a smart, pretty girl he likes that (supposedly!) likes him back. But the only problem is his cousin Chin-Kee, who visits every year, annoys the patience out of him, and who is the number one reason why Danny moves to different high schools every year. He figures this year with Chin-Kee will be the same as always: visit, embarrassment, move. But this year, things aren't quite what he expects it to be. At ALL. Personal Review: This book was awesome! I do not usually read comic books and instead prefer more traditional novels. Shout out to Melissa Corey for leaving me a comment and recommending this book to me! I have re-read it at least twice (okay, maybe 5 times). Recommendation: I would recommend this book for people who like graphic novels. who like Chinese mythology (or want to know more about it), for people who can relate to Jin and just want to fit in, and for people who liked Zen and the Art Of Faking It.
