Book Genre: Realistic Fiction Summary: Meg and Molly are sister, but they couldn't be any more different from each other. With her beautiful golden curls and bubbly, happy personality, no wonder everyone loves Molly. But Meg has stringy brown hair and while she has a talent for the camera, she is unsure about her future, shy, and often mad, throwing tantrums at the slightest thing. But then one day, the sisters' world gets flipped upside-down, and everything changes. Molly gets sick, and now she's the grouchy one, suffering from her sickness, throwing tantrums, and she's often impulsive. Meg is confused about what's changed in her sister...until she hears why. Sometimes, you have to let go on the ones you love. Personal Review: I liked the book. There were some parts that I wish were unmentioned, but a good book nonetheless. I like where Meg and her dad build a darkroom so she can develop her pictures. There was a sad part near the end, but it was a good book. Lois Lowry is a good author (I've read the entire Giver series, so I should know). Recommendation: I recommend this book for people who like realistic fiction and/or sad books. I would also recommend this for people who have a strong stomach and can handle gross parts (don't read it if you don't like to read about diseases or other disgusting things). Want to buy the book? Book Genre: Dystopian Literature Summary: America is now mostly destroyed. To rebuild it, many talented people partake in the Testing, where only the best of the best go to a University to learn with others on how to rebuild the cities. So when sixteen-year-old Malencia "Cia" Vale is selected for the Testing along with three others in her colony Five Lakes, her father warns her of the dangers that linger in the Testing and gives her three simple words on her departure: Trust no one. Then she met Tomas, the clever, charming, smart, and handsome boy of her dreams from her colony who could surely be trusted as her partner. But when the Testing gets dangerous, and friends become foes and foes become friends, Cia starts to wonder who she really can trust, if she'll survive, and how she'll pass the test of her life. Personal Review: I liked the book. It was very suspenseful. I almost felt like I was actually taking the Testing alongside Cia and was experiencing every moment with her. Some parts were confusing to follow, but overall it was a great story. It was a perfect example of dystopian literature! Recommendation: I would recommend this for people who like dystopian literature, who like suspenseful books, and who can handle a little blood. Warning: Some parts have a gross factor to them. If you can't handle the sight of seeing (or reading about!) blood, this book is not for you. Do you want to buy the book? Click here. Author: Kiera Cass Book Colors: Purple, Purple, and Purple.

But when the palace attacks outside grow stronger, America soon realizes that she will really have to fight for the future she wants if she wants to be Maxon's bride. Personal Summary: I really like reading this series. At some parts, it made you feel like America was going home, put at some parts you think oh yeah, she's staying all right. You could actually FEEL the relationship between Maxon and America and the tension in the competition. Recommendation: I recommend this book for people who like distopian literature, who like books with romance and/or competition, or who wants to know more about the books I mentioned. If it looks good, read it! Do you want to buy the first book? Click here. What about the whole series? Click here. Author: Justine Larbalestier Book Color: Purple
Book Genre: Fantasy Summary: In New Avalon, everyone has a personal fairy. Even though no one can see them, they can help a person do something, like how an all-boys-like-you fairy can help you get more dates, or how a stealing fairy can make you richer. But fourteen-year-old Charlie has the worst fairy possible: a parking fairy that does nothing but make sure that the car that Charlie is in gets the best parking spot. And when she gets used by Andrew "Danders Anders" Rogers for parking spots, that makes her even more desperate to try and get rid of her fairy. So she teams up with Fiorenze (she has an all-boys-like-you fairy), who seams to have the perfect idea: peak into her mom's secret fairy book and use it's advice to swap both of their fairies. Charlie goes all in, and at first things seem to work. But when things start to get messed up, Charlie and Fiorenze need to ditch their fairies, and fast. Personal Review: This book became one of my other favorites is my Top Ten Books list. I loved the part where Charlie and her friend are walking in the city on the sidewalk when Andrew pulls up close and tells Charlie to get in. When she refuses, Andrew stops his car in the middle of heavy traffic, gets out of the car, runs to the sidewalk and tries to make Charlie get in the car so he can get a parking spot. But not a moment to soon, just as Andrew was about to drive away, two police officers came, one with a stun gun, and they stunned Andrew. I love that part. Recommendation: I recommend this book for anyone who likes fantasy and who likes fairies. I would also recommend this book for people who want to know more about a girl who lives on a fantasy island and goes to a strict high school and tries to ditch her fairy, and whoever wants to know more about the invisible fairies that live in Avalon. Who knows, maybe you'll know what type of fairy you have after reading this book! Want to buy the book? Click here. Author: Paula Yoo Book Color: Purple
Book Genre: Realistic Fiction Summary: Patti Yoon's parents want nothing but the best from their Korean-American daughter. Getting the top spot in Patti's All-State Orchestra and making sure she passes her SAT's so she can get into the Ivy League (or HARVARDYALEPRINCTON, as her mom calls it) is all they care about. So when Patti gets placed as assistant concertmaster in All-State and gets less than a 2300 on her SAT's, it makes her parents very upset. As they put it, it's simply not good enough. But she soon learns there is more to life than the SAT scores and the All-State Orchestra. There's rock concerts, her favorite band Jet Pack, and Ben Wheeler (also known as Cute Trumpet Boy), who is nice, cute, witty, clever, and loves music just about as much as she does. Soon stressful decisions and sneaky plans get Patti caught in the middle of tests and fun and forces her to make a decision: Is it time to follow your parent's' dreams or your heart? Personal Review: I really liked the book. It was funny enough to be in my Top Ten Books list. I really liked the part where she keeps complaining on how she eats Spam and kimchi with almost every meal (thanks to her mom. Patti claims that Koreans think that Spam is one of the best things in the world and that Koreans also eat kimchi with every meal). I also thought it was funny when her church group friends get her ready for a concert date with Ben. It was funny because it was the day of the Korean church's Valentine's Day Lock-In and all of the girls that were chaperones were getting Patti ready in the bathroom. They nearly got busted! Recommendation: I recommend this book for anyone who likes realistic fiction, who likes lots of book drama (because believe me, this book has plenty of it), who likes funny books, and who wants to know more about a Korean-American girl who plays the violin and has do-everything-perfect parents. Book Genre: Historical Fiction Summary: Gerta lives in Germany, and when she was young, the rise of the Berlin Wall took place dividing her family in half-her older brother and her father on the West side, and Gerta, her second-oldest brother, and her mom on the East. For many years it stayed this way. But one day, she sees her father doing a funny but familiar dance on top of the Western watchtower, and she believes that her father wants her and her brother to dig underneath the wall so they can live on their side. But there are Grenztruppen, or policeman, guarding the wall, and if they catch her and her brother escaping, they will die and never see their father again. Can they really escape the deadly Berlin Wall? Personal Review: To be honest, I thought it was boring at first (Oh, sure, some parts were a little interesting, but there were very few of them). But when they came to the part of the digging and of the characters trying to escape the Berlin Wall, I couldn't put it down. I really liked the last few chapters, where you get to see who dies and who lives trying to cross underneath the Berlin Wall. Recommendation: I recommend this book for people who like historical fiction, who want to know an 'inside' view of what it was like during the rise of the Berlin Wall, or who want to know more about our world's history (mainly Germany). Do you want to buy the book? Then click here. Author: Rick Riordan (as you have probably noticed by now, my last post also had Rick as my author. The reason for this is because I like his books. He is my favorite author of all time.). Book Colors: Purple, Blue, and Blue.

Carter lives with his dad as he travels the world, Sadie lives in London, England with her grandparents. Carter wears dress shoes, Sadie wears combat boots. Carter has dark, curly hair, Sadie has strait caramel hair. But when they find out that they are really young Egyptian magicians, it's up to them to try and prevent the Egyptian god Set from destroying the world. The Throne Of Fire: Carter and Sadie have another problem on their hands: the chaos snake Apophis is gaining power, and the Kanes have little time to find Ra, the sun god, who could stop Apophis from bringing the world to an end. But it sure won't be easy! The Serpent's Shadow: Carter and Sadie have found Ra, but he has done little help. Even worse, time has nearly run out for the Kanes and the young Egyptian magicians for Apophis to rise. So it's up to them to travel across the US and become allies with other gods in order to prevent the end of the world. Personal Review: I really liked the series. It is my second favorite book series and I would recommend many people to pick up a book from this collection and read it because it is really good. My favorite part of the whole series is in book 1, where Carter and Sadie find out the truth about their amulets. It's really funny to read about what they do! I also liked the part in book 1 where Carter and Sadie find out that their cat, Muffin, is really the Egyptian goddess Bast. Recommendation: I would recommend this book for anyone who liked the Percy Jackson series, liked books with different viewpoints, likes fantasy, or wants to know more about Egyptian mythology. Want the first book? Click here. Want the whole series? Click here. Okay, so you know how in my last post I said how I would talk about Percy Jackson later on? The Last Olympian: When Kronos threatens to destroy New York City (and the whole United States), it's up to Camp Half-Blood to join forces with old allies to stop the world from being destroyed. Personal Review: Like I said, it was my favorite book series EVER. I recommend for everyone to try it out because I promise you, you will LOVE it! It was a real winner for me. I have been in love with Greek mythology ever since I read it. My top 3 favorite moments from this book series are: 1. When Percy, Annabeth, and Grover get trapped in the Lotus Casino. 2. When Percy battles the Minotaur and finds out that his best friend is a satyr (half man, half goat people who look up to the god Pan but are servers of Dionysus). 3. When Percy is in the throne room with his friends in the last book, all of them getting prizes from the Greek gods. Recommendation: I recommend this book for anyone who likes fantasy, Greek mythology (or any mythology, for that matter), or really funny, sarcastic main characters. Want the first book? Click here. Book Genre: Realistic Fiction Summary: San Lee is a normal, innocent teenage boy (more like an adopted, Chinese, sarcastic teenage boy) who has moved (again) to Pennsylvania and is trying to decide what he should be in the school, because the way he sees it, blending in won't get him noticed by Woody, the guitar-playing girl of his dreams. When San is partners with her for a social studies project and studies Zen for the topic, it soon becomes much more than a Social Studies project. In fact, he becomes so popular that people (and Woody) soon know him as "The Zen Master". But when things start to collapse, can San bind things together again before "The Zen Master" is no more? Personal Review: I really loved the book! It was one of the best I ever read. It's such a shame that San Lee is only a made-up book character because if he was real, I would demand to see him in person (Then again, I could say the same thing about Percy Jackson, but that's a whole different topic for a different time.)! It was both funny and, at some parts, just a little bit sad. Perfect book! Recommendation: I would recommend this book to anyone who likes realistic fiction, funny books, books about different cultures, or books about people trying to stand apart from a group of people. Book Genre: Realistic Fiction Summary: Running is not only Jessica's hobby, it's her destiny. So when a freak car accident makes her lose one of her legs, her destiny becomes a dream, a memory, and she knows she'll never run again. And later during school, people act strange around her, like they don't want to be with her or they don't know what to say. Jessica soon realizes that she has acted the same way to her new math tutor, Rosa, a girl with CP who has spent almost her whole life in a wheelchair. When the track team decides to help Jessica get a prosthetic metal running leg to help her run again, Jessica is surprised, and ready to do it. But she doesn't want to run alone...she wants Rosa to go with her. Personal Review: I loved the book. And I mean, LOVED the book. I couldn't put it down because it's one of those books that have the feeling of What is going to happen next?. I love books with that sort of action and excitement at the flip of every page. Touching parts mixed in perfectly with they joyful, happier ones, making this book one of the best I've ever read. Recommendation: I recommend this book for people who like realistic fiction, books with sports, books about people with disabilities, or books with lots of action. Want the book? Click here. |
